Food cart franchise business – A booming industry in the Philippines

by Myla Jasmine Bantog

If there is one business that has been proven to be successful in the Philippines time and again, then that has to be the food cart franchising business. Even though the Philippines is considered to be a third world country, it is still a very lucrative location for franchising, since Filipinos are constantly on the lookout for profitable business opportunities. In fact, the Philippines is now known as the “franchising hub of Asia” based on the number of franchises that have become successful in this country.

Surveys show that to date, there are about 1000 brands being franchised in the Philippines. The franchise business has played a large role in the improvement of the Philippine economy, contributing 5% to the Philippines’ GDP and providing employment to about a million Filipinos. These facts alone show how much the franchise industry has been helping the Filipinos earn a living.

Most of the franchises in the country are concerned with food carts and kiosks, basically because these are the easiest to manage among the other franchises. If you are having a problem selecting the right food cart franchise for you, here are some guidelines for you to follow in choosing the right type of franchise you should engage in.

First of all, you need to decide on the product that you want to sell. In this case, decide what kind of food you want to sell to your customers. Just like any other business, you have to consider your interests. For example, you love eating noodles. You can research about what brands or businesses are offering noodle kiosks, and you can ask them how to avail of their franchise. Not only are you involved in something that interests you; you are also making money out of it.

Another consideration is your customers. You are not the only person who loves noodles in the world. Consider your target customers. Noodles are perfect meriendas for people who want food on the go that can satisfy their tummies, so your target customers are, but not limited to, students and office workers who are taking their break.

Once you have your customers, you need to also consider your food cart franchise’s location. The location is actually the most important factor you need to consider. Just imagine how slow business will be if you build a noodle food cart right outside a rich village. Place your franchise where your clients are located, such as in the school canteen or office canteen. Also, look for the area where there are more customers and few competitors, since your product will have greater demand. This way, you can earn a larger profit.
